HARMONY OF THE SPHERES : Musica Universalis

Centuries before medieval builders designed the soaring vaults of the Mediterranean, Pythagoras conceptualised the Harmony of the Spheres (Musica Universalis). He proposed that the mathematical ratios guiding musical harmony also governed the movements of the stars and planets, viewing the cosmos as a symphony of geometric intervals.

During the Middle Byzantine era, master builders brought this cosmic harmony down to earth through crossed-dome church architecture. By seamlessly suspending a circular dome representing the heavens over a square base representing the earth, they built a physical bridge between the human and the divine.
